FireQA at Melbourne Build 2025: Speed on Site Matters

In October 2025, Rachael and Hana from the FireQA team travelled to beautiful Melbourne to attend Melbourne Build 2025, one of the largest construction conferences in the country.

Held right in the heart of the city, the location didn’t disappoint - plenty of incredible dining options nearby (always a bonus), and a buzzing atmosphere that matched the scale of the event.

A Big Event with Big Conversations

Melbourne Build is a huge conference, with four stages hosting panels, presentations, and product showcases throughout the event. While it’s not a fire-specific conference, there was still strong representation from familiar suppliers and a lot of crossover with the fire protection world.

One topic that stood out across the expo floor was bushfire protection, with many suppliers showcasing products aimed at this growing sector.

Catching Up with FireQA Clients in Melbourne

A real highlight was catching up with FireQA clients based in and around Melbourne, including Rapid Passive Fire, Territory Hydraulics, and Fire8 Pty Ltd.

We also visited Rapid Passive Fire for some hands-on time - running through new features, doing a bit of training, and, most importantly, listening. We always value these sessions because they give us real insight into how teams work day-to-day and where the pressure points are on site.

Speed on Site Is Critical in Victoria

A recurring theme from our Melbourne-based teams was speed on site. With unionised labour in Victoria, having a technician on site is more expensive than in many other states. That makes efficiency absolutely critical.

Teams told us clearly:

  • Technicians need to be installing - not doing data entry

  • On-site capture must be fast, simple, and accurate

  • Anything that slows them down directly impacts profitability

This is exactly where FireQA’s Smart-Fills feature really resonated. This will be especially useful for our passive fire install system.

Smart-Fills: Faster Data Entry, Fewer Mistakes

Smart-Fills are designed to significantly reduce time spent entering data on site. By allowing technicians to select a product and have key fields automatically populated—including images of the tested system - the app guides correct installation from the start.

The result:

  • Faster data entry

  • Fewer installation errors

  • Reduced rework

  • Better margins

Having the tested solution visible in the app helps crews get it right the first time, which is especially important when time on site comes at a premium.

Positive Feedback from Fire8

Catching up with Jarrad from Fire8 was another standout moment. Jarrad knows passive fire inside and out, and his feedback on FireQA was overwhelmingly positive.

He was the first to admit he’s not particularly tech-savvy - but he can use the system easily. We love hearing that. Keeping FireQA intuitive, straightforward, and practical is a non-negotiable for us.

We often hear stories of competing systems becoming overly complex, requiring constant retraining because staff struggle to use them. Our goal is the opposite: software that works for the people on site, not against them.

Wrapping Up Melbourne (and Looking Ahead)

Outside of the conference, we made the most of Melbourne - enjoying Nobu restaurant, soaking up the iconic laneways, and fitting in some great conversations along the way.

FireQA visited Fire Australia in 2025, and we’ll be back in Melbourne in 2026 for Fire Australia, and we’re already looking forward to continuing these conversations, learning more from local teams, and helping fire protection contractors work faster, smarter, and with confidence.
