1. TERM
Construction monitoring, in the context of passive fire compliance, is the systematic inspection and recording of building items requiring ongoing oversight during construction — tracking their status from initial identification through to closure, with photographic evidence and reinspection history at each stage.
2. PURPOSE
During construction, passive fire and building compliance items are frequently incomplete, inaccessible, or in a state that changes between site visits. Construction monitoring provides a structured, documented process for identifying these items, assigning them for resolution, and tracking each through reinspection to closure.
FireQA's Construction Monitoring module replaces informal site walk notes and email chains with a single, location-referenced register that gives clients and project managers real-time visibility of outstanding items and their current status.
3. SCOPE
Construction monitoring applies during the construction phase of a project where passive fire or building compliance items require identification, tracking, and reinspection before handover. It is used by passive fire inspectors, fire engineers, building surveyors, and principal contractors in Australia and New Zealand.
Each item can be reinspected as many times as necessary before it is closed. Clients and other trades can be invited into the work package to view progress in real time.
4. COMPONENTS
Initial Inspection record — captures site data, issue status (open/closed/no issues), location, item details with photos, actions required, and person or trade assigned
Reinspection record — date reinspected, notes, and supporting photos; each item can be reinspected multiple times
Closed item record — records date closed, acceptance level, and supporting notes
Floor plan pin-drop — location reference for each item on a marked-up site plan
Status tracking — open, closed, and no-issues states with date-stamped transitions
Filtering — all inspections, reports, and site plan pins filterable by status, date range, and assigned person
BIM schedule import and bulk upload capability
Client and trade access — third parties can be invited to view specific work packages in real time
